DXpedition's take place here in Australia every few months to the various remote regions of the country. Here are a few of the most favourite DX locations in Australia that have given good results on the medium-wave bands over the past 25 years. Totally different reception patterns are experienced at each site. For example, Coolum Beach favours the USA and Canadian DX, Marlo has been a good site for Latins, and the Coorong is an excellent site for both Asian and European DX. In recent years we have been
trying out a new location at Woodside Beach. This has turned
Due to the huge travelling distances involved, and the fact that most Aussie DXers interested in medium-wave live along on the east coast of Australia, the areas around Western Australia, Northern Territory, and the western coastal areas of South Australia remain untapped for DX. Perhaps one day we will try and organise an expedition across to W.A. in search for a few African signals. |
| Recently Dave Onley and myself have been trying out a new location at Junction Hill, just an hours drive north of Melbourne. Conditions have so far been mixed, with a few North Americans heard. The view from where you park the car, across to the hills of the Great Dividing Range, is fantastic. It's a great location for the odd bit of casual listening, if you just want to go for a drive on a Saturday afternoon and not bother packing all the antenna poles and camping gear. |
